Scott Filline:

An educator, actor, husband, brother, and son.

I was born and raised in West Chicago, IL, and moved away only in order to pursue a B.S in Physical and Health Education at Indiana Wesleyan University. After a unique student teaching experience in the Indianapolis Public School system, I graduated in December of 2011. Immediately following my graduation, I took a position as a "Captain" with the Brain Hurricane tutoring program. Through this position I was able to serve students in West Chicago and Aurora, IL in an after school setting. In May of 2012 I accepted a resident teaching position with AUSL, which brings me to this capstone portfolio.

My Residency:

During my Residency year I had the opportunity to work alongside my mentor, Brian Billings, at Johnson School of Excellence in the North Lawndale Community. The students at Johnson numbered just over 400 with a demographic comprised of a 100% African American student body. As a physical education teacher I spent time with all 400+ students Monday through Thursday. During this time I also had the unique opportunity to serve as an assistant coach on the football team. Through this experience I gained valuable insight on the inner workings of a successful athletic program as well as what it takes to be an effective coach.
